DMC Barnsley

Apart from being heated by Biomass, Barnsley DMC is also the most highly controlled building in Barnsley. Each of the rooms within the building – of which there are over 100 - are independently controlled for time, temperature and occupation; resulting in the operation of a very economic building that directly heats only the occupied offices.

The Transport Workshops feature extensive ventilation, using direct extraction from vehicle exhausts as well as Nitrogen Dioxide sensing and controlled occupancy ventilation from overhead Air Handling Units. Piped gases, oils and grease were also provided to each work station.

This is a new Biomass District Heating Installation replacing coal and due to be completed mid February 2011. Home to 89 properties, the site has an impressive saving in Carbon Emissions at approx. 800 Tonnes per annum. Installation costs totalling £3500 were paid back in just 3 months.

Originally heated by gas, the centre was adapted to allow a coal boiler to supply the base heating load for the whole facility and now the entire building environment is controlled by microprocessors.
